Saturday Programs

Traditional Mandarin International Language Program

The Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) offers a Traditional Mandarin International Language (IL) Program for elementary and secondary students on Saturday mornings at St. Thomas More School.  The IL Program is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Education.  Registration is free for Ontario residents (with only a $10 consumable fee). Students learn to read, write, and converse in Mandarin.  Students are taught Traditional Chinese characters and use the Zhuyin Fuhao / Bopomofo phonetic system to help students with pronunciation.  The curriculum includes multimedia teaching resources for teachers to better utilize Smartboard functionality in the classrooms, as well as learning aids to help parents support learning at home.  Students from all school boards are welcome.
